Team Love

Is there a word bigger or GRANDER than gratitude that could try and describe how the past week has made us all feel!? I mean, technically there’s lots of looonger, bigger words, but I’m not sure any of them can sandwich these feelings into one word better. We are SO grateful. We are so proud. And ha, we’re a little tired! But I think the energizing glow of our Consultants will keep us buzzing all month long.

First of all…they REALLY all seemed to love Daydream Believer. I mean, REALLY REALLY love it! And that makes me feel like a million bucks. And I can only imagine how Ashley feels – her first Spring release, from start to finish! It will be a part of her story forever. And we’re just getting started?! I can’t even imagine what beauty we will create in the future together! I’m so happy to be designing in this beautiful bubble with her.

Second of all…we let a couple secrets out…how could we not!? These are our girls after all. I wonder how many of them have spilled the beans!? Welp, you won’t have to keep your lips sealed any longer lady friends…

We’ve got more women’s designs headed your way! We’re trying a whole bunch of different shapes, styles, fabrics, colors, you name it—trying to figure out what Wildflowers Women’s clothing looks like to us! With an outfit or two coming with each release, you’ll be able to make picture perfect outfit pairings for *almost* the whole family! Yeah, I’m not quite brave enough to get into Dad’s clothes yet, even though I think Mark (the handsome husband) would be more than enough adorable inspiration…

Like I said, we’re prepared to dress like 3/4 of the family now!! YEP—we have a few special boy pieces coming with each release this season! Ahhh…I’m so excited. I haven’t designed boys in years, so we’re taking it slow and steady— a button-up here, a pair of shorts there, and maybe a bowtie or two. I hope your dapper dudes love them as much as I do!! I know Kate, our photographer, can’t wait to dress her precious boy Hayes in them, and of course, our CEO, Ashton’s son Bennett had to make his Wildflowers debut and model the new looks!

Third of all,..just because I prefer odd numbers, I want to call out MY TEAM. That’s right, MY HOMETOWN HEROES – my office girls *and boys*. How lucky are we to be in this boat together?! I would be lost without my humans. I moved to Texas for a job and now I have a family, a colorful overwhelmingly creative career, and I’m just so thankful. You guys make my real life dreams come true!

And finally…someone reminded me of my own words on Friday night of Conference that I really need to keep in my nugget. It was weird to be quoted (even though she shortened it because…I, ha, talk/write A LOT), and even weirder that I wanted to take my own advice. “Wildflowers, they’re curious little plants…they POP UP out of nowhere, they can take over an entire garden if given the chance…they’re natural. They’re unique. And try to cut them down, I dare ya! I bet they’ll come back. Stronger than ever.”

Stronger than ever. That’s us. And my goodness, after last week, I FEEL it, don’t you!?

And now, let’s go do a little daydream believing.

XO,

SAM

I cannot believe I’m less than a month away from my one year anniversary with my Wildflowers family! A year ago today I was back in Indiana with no idea what 2018 would have in store for me. On a whim, I moved to Austin in January for an amazing opportunity to work with Sam and the Wildflowers team. I knew that I would be learning to create over-the-top cuteness EVERY DAY, and honestly…that’s about all I knew.

I had no prior “professional” design experience, nor did I think myself capable of actually being able to create these darling clothes! But Sam believed in me. She watched me from afar, as a customer and friend, through my old job as the marketing manager of a local Fort Wayne boutique. She saw my potential, even when I couldn’t. And she still does. This year has been full of learning curves for me, but Sam lets me blossom along the way, with patience and grace, and I’m so lucky to be a part of the ever-growing team of Wildflowers! I still can’t believe I get to be a part of the process that puts a smile on so many little girls’ faces.

We started this year with our Spring 2018 collection, Best Day Ever. And it was just that – full of unicorns, rainbows, and bold beautiful colors! Seeing this collection Sam designed immediately made me fall in love with the brand even more. I knew I made the right choice when my first day at work began by building giant rainbows out of balloons and making huge donut walls for our Spring conference!

We finished out the year with our Fall 2018 collection, Pocketful of Wonder. I started designing with Sam during the third release of this season, so it instantly became near and dear to me. From scouting for photoshoots in the most magical of places, to seeing these little sketches we designed actually come to life, this collection was nothing short of extraordinary!

But of course, our photographer Kate captures each collection way better than my words ever could! Just watch that adorable year in review video to see all the magic we created in 2018!

Last but never least, I speak for everyone from the Wildflowers home office when I say we are so, so, so grateful for each and every one of our Consultants, hostesses, and customers. Thank you for accepting me into this beautiful world of girls boutique clothing! It’s been a wonderful ride so far and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for all of us!

Cheers to the new year,
Ashley

It’s that time of year again! Time to welcome a new batch of incredible ladies to our Wildflowers family. Each season, we make our hiring post with fingers crossed that 1.) we get applicants (of course!) and 2.) that the ladies that apply are ready for a life-changing journey filled with over the-top-cuteness and a sisterhood to match. And with each hiring period, we find more and more GEMS. Women from different states with different backgrounds that bring something unique and amazing to our team. We’re over the moon to share with you our most recent group of Wildflowers’ Consultants! I can’t WAIT for these women to share Spring 2019 with you!!

XO,
Sam

Is it possible to be too grateful? Or too thankful?! All I know is…that is what I feel constantly.

From one corner of this little Wildflowers world to the next…I have something, more likely, SOMEONE to be thankful for and grateful to. Someone that I feel I owe so, so much. Sometimes that person is just down the hall and sometimes that person works from her home in Lafayette. Today I want to share another handful of the amazing, one of kind women that help make all of my dreams come true. The gratitude I have for these ladies is pretty HUUUUGE.

I messaged Caitlin randomly on Facebook in January of 2017. We were throwing around the idea of starting a direct selling company and I remembered Caitlin from a photoshoot back in 2013. She was the super top seller at the time and was chosen to fly to a shoot and help me style all the pretties. We instantly connected over the cute clothes, but it was even more than that. She was so real, intelligent and articulate, with the best southern accent around. I could totally see WHY she was at the top of her game. So when we wanted to pick someone’s brain in the beginning stages of this big idea, Caitlin’s face appeared in my mind immediately! She drove to home office and after a few hours, this meet and greet became a job offer. We didn’t need a Director of Sales, we needed a CAITLIN! And the rest is history! Or history in the making… I can’t wait to see what we accomplish with this incredible leader at the helm!

Lisa is the newest gal in the family! I remember when Caitlin accepted the job, she mentioned her dear friend named Lisa who felt such a calling to be apart of Wildflowers…but the stars weren’t quite aligned…yet. One year later, with all the wonderful growth we’ve experienced, the time to get Caitlin a partner in crime was here! And Lisa was at the top of that list. Lisa flew in and met everyone in the home office, and we immediately fell for this sweet, composed, and talented woman! Her love for Wildflowers, leadership development, and sales, in general was evident immediately. Now this ambitious lady is taking care of our ‘newbies’ as we fondly call them. I know that under her leadership our new Consultants businesses are going to flourish!

Oh my sweet Caroline, our epitome of lovely Creative Direct really keeps our world spinning. What would I do without her uplifting spirit? Her undeniably thoughtful sensibilities? Working without this gal by my side is truly unimaginable to me. I don’t want to even think about it! Before I knew she existed, she knew all about me. She and her amazing mama Lynn had been reading Denise and my blog for years. And when I left my old gig, these two ladies made it a mission to find me. Little did they know, they weren’t finding me…they were saving me. I think back to when Denise passed away and when I struggled trying to find a new life for myself, a new world to hide away in, a purpose? Caroline and her beautiful family were standing there with open arms, welcoming me into their colorful world. Caroline and I were instantly thick as thieves, and seriously silly as can be together. And ever since she has been “my person” here in Austin.

Last but literally NEVER least, is my kitty, Andrea. Fierce. Fabulous. A true force of nature in a wonderful human shell. What I love most about her, other than her wickedly clever sense of humor and easy, confident demeanor, is how soft and sweet she can be with the people she loves. She’s so intentional about the people in her life, and when you become one of her ‘people’ you get to see even more of her sparkly, hilariously witty personality. Aside from all the fun we have together, this chick keeps me on my game! Ha, she keeps all of us on our game actually! She runs the social media for all of our brands, she helps Kate shoot flats, she helps me with all color commenting, and helps to coordinate all marketing efforts with Caroline. I don’t think there’s a thing here at Wildflowers that she doesn’t help with. That’s what makes her a jack of all trades, and a total jackpot of a friend, if you ask me!

How could Wildflowers be anything but great with people like this on our team? Together I think we can do pretty much anything.

Stay tuned to see the mountains we move next…including a sneak of Release 2 of Pocketful of Wonder!

XOXO,

Sam

Yesterday we said goodbye to the most incredible group of women. These gals flew in from all over the country to be with their Wildflower sisters, and to see Pocketful of Wonder for the first time! Oh my goodness, love was truly in the air! You know, I always trust that Caitlin is going to hire a great group of gals each season, but I’m consistently blown away by the human gems she finds! Their hearts, their sheer passion for Wildflowers, and OMG their personal style (it’s like a real life fashion show here!), completely mesmerize me and I couldn’t be more head over heels for each and every one of them!

Sometimes I don’t think I realize what sacrifices our Consultants make to come to conference, and to join the Wildflowers team in general! They leave their babies for hours and sometimes days at a time, step outside of their comfort zone, and have to learn SO MUCH (details of each new release, marketing tips, clothing styles, software, the list goes on) in such a short period of time. This week was…unreal. I watched our superstars receive awards for different sales goals last night and I couldn’t help but cry. I fangirl about my home office team all the time, but seeing THIS side of our crew recognized for their seriously insane achievements was an otherworldly experience and I’m humbled, thankful, and…speechless.

And while I’m floating on cloud nine feeling all warm and fuzzy, I want to give an introduction to a few of our Austin office gals that tend to be behind the scenes, or should I say, behind the SCREENS…

You’ve seen this girl here and there, but I’m not sure I’ve ever given her a proper shout out. Meet Erin, one of our two graphic artists in the office! Sweet and spunky Erin showed up at our doorstep right out a college SO ready to prove herself, so ready to show us that SHE was the gal for the job. And that attitude, sense of responsibility, and gung-ho spirit are ever present with this gal. Each season’s special logo starts in her brain, and really helps to shape the feeling of the over all season!

With a little more experience under her belt, Lauren is our lead graphic artist in the office. This fabulous fashionista is best known for keeping our website looking fresh and pretty, and making sure our Consultants get all the sales materials they need to have a successful season. This gal has got such a creative eye, from her funky outfits to her crazy good decorating skills, Lauren puts her own personal spin on everything she touches. Oh, and she’s like the Mary Poppins of props! Oh, you need a winter coat in the middle of July? Lauren has one in her car! You need a suitcase turned into a speaker for a party? Lauren made one, it’s in her car (lol)!

And last but not least, our mama bear Kate is the epic photographer turned videographer turned epic pom pom creator here at Wildflowers. This talented force of nature has continuously blown my mind with the beauty she creates from behind the lens. When I say she brings my designs to life, I really mean it. With every photo and video she shares, I feel like I get to see the world through her eyes (and that world is a GORGEOUS place). And to top off all this skill, she started a company this year that knocks my socks off! We’re all Pom Queens thanks to her (check out those earrings)!

I don’t know who came up with the expression “it takes a village” but I bet they had a team like I do.

Until next time…

XO,
Sam

Dressing mannequins, painting signs, and doing all the crafty-crafts… These are all sure signs that our SECOND Fall conference is just around the corner. Almost 100% (WHAT!!) of our consultants will be making the maiden voyage to Austin next Tuesday and we are trying our very best to pull out all the stops for them. This is the first time we actually rented a fancy-schmancy conference room to host everyone in…I feel so proud that we have a big enough group of gals now to fill a room like that! Did you know our first ever sales conferences was literally held in my office? Yep, we cleaned up our little building and welcomed the whole crew in! While I loved having everyone see where ‘the magic happens’, I think we’d feel very squished in the design room now.

Sometimes we feel a little squished back here as it is! And I LOVE IT. I love working so closely with our whole team. When I first got hired for Eleanor Rose, I had this big office all to myself… But when we started dreaming up Wildflowers, we knew I would need a partner in design…someone that has the other half of my brain in terms of fit, construction, and quality! That’s when we welcomed Mano to the team. Let me tell ya, I was DELIGHTED to share my office with this lady.

My girl Mano is patient, loving, and sweet to the core. I’ve never met someone so warm and loyal. And I’ve never worked with a tech designer that is so flexible with my crazy ideas. She never looks at me and says “we can’t do that” (even though I bet she wants to sometimes!!), even if the idea seems a little tricky, or dang near impossible. She’s in it to win it and will try and try until we nail the design or I say “LET’S START OVER.” I think patience is key when working with any designer and she shows it endlessly to me. I feel so blessed to call her a team mate and a dear friend. Plus, she’s the only gal around I trust with my sweet babe Margo, I swear Mano loves her like I do! How did I get so lucky!?

Now this chick is someone you haven’t heard much about….yet. And I say yet because she’s kind of a big deal! Meet Ashley, our newest designer. When I was pregnant, we began chatting about finding someone to help me design. I felt very protective of my role, and wasn’t going to just hire ANYBODY. I was going to be picky, heck, maybe I was going to be even a little difficult about who we hire… But then this gal I’ve known since high school, but barely knew at all, visits from Indiana, we randomly hang out, and a lightbulb in my brain lit up! She had never designed a thing in her life, but I could tell she had an eye for aesthetics…and I had a feeling that would translate perfectly into design. Well, not to toot my own horn, but a year later she has worked here for just over 6 months and I have never felt better about our Wildflowers designs. There is so much freshness coming your way (her first collection she helped with was Fall ’18 Release 3!), and I think Ashley and her modern take on vintage fabrics and fun silhouettes are to thank! More on this cute girl later, promise! I might even ask her to blog or something for ya sometime!

And I guess since I introduced the two gals that share the design office, I’ll re-introduce myself to those of you that may not know who this crazy Sam person is… I’m 29 and a new mom to my sweet baby girl Margo Denise! We all just took personality tests at the office and I’m an ENFP…which I think makes a lot of sense. I’m kinda boring, but I love to be fun…it’s just that boring is my default (I think the office girls might disagree with this!). My husband Mark and I have been married for 3 years and I’d be lost without his love and support (he’s a stay-at-home super dad!). I’ve been in this wonderful world of girl’s clothing for 10 years this September and I can hardly believe it. I had the best mentor and friend a girl could ask for, she paved the way for all this beauty I get to share with you.

Okay, I think that’s it for introductions today… Goodness knows there will be SO many next week at Conference!! I CAN’T WAIT!!!

XO,

SAM

As the sales director of Wildflowers, I have the pleasure of meeting so many of you each season as we grow our family of Consultants.

Our hand-picked Consultants are something we are all very proud of. Finding the perfect balance of kind, caring, awesome, and hard-working ladies is always a task I look forward to. As we speak, we are training and guiding these women to give the best possible customer service, while opening our hearts and showing them what our company is made of.

Please join me in welcoming our Fall 2018 brand-spanking-new Consultants!

-Caitlin

What would I do without my mama!?

I don’t even want to think about it. I know we’ve had our days, our fights, our silly drama, but she is my rock and number one fan (if you don’t believe this, check one of our FB posts – that Susie is always dropping love for me there!!). Over the years my appreciation and admiration for this women has just grown and now that I’m a mama myself, I really can’t believe all the stuff I put her through. All the times I didn’t call back and made her worry, just because I was “busy,” or all the times I got a bad grade and she hid it from my dad. Mom’s do so much for us kids. I’m so thankful there’s a special day every year to celebrate these incredible women role models!

I have my own mother to thank for so, SO much, but I also have hundreds and hundreds of ladies out there to thank too! I’m talking about you— yeah, YOU!!! The mamas who have followed me from one dream to another. Y’all hopped on board with this crazy ride faster than I could say “Wildflowers Clothing” and for that (and so much more) I will always thank you and I will always want to celebrate you! And I absolutely always want to celebrate the fans, friends, and family that took the leap and became more than cheerleaders— they became CONSULTANTS!

How gorgeous are all these ladies and their precious babies?! I am so proud of our growing team! And SO incredibly proud of the woman that leads them all to success… Caitlin, our super sales director extraordinaire! I don’t know what I (or about 50 other ladies) would do without you! But thank goodness we don’t need to think about that!

And last but not least, we’ve got two special ladies on the team that are usually either behind a camera or behind a computer screen! The wonderfully patient and poised face behind the hello@wildflowersclothing.com!! Teshania is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside! And I’m beyond excited to have her daughter Bailey model next week at our first Fall 2018 photo shoot!

And below, the super star photographer Kate that is always behind the camera making photo and video magic galore!  I was so happy to get a pic of her and her seriously cute boy Hayes for the blog! If I had a dollar for every vision of mine that she made come to life, I’d be a millionaire!! Ahhh…everywhere I turn I have strong, creative women to look up to and learn from. How lucky am I?!

Okay, I’m going to end this blog with a bang by picking the winners from our last blog post!! I asked y’all to tell me what your favorite piece of Wildflowers is so far and omg, I couldn’t help but cry while reading all the thoughtfully written and totally sweet comments. You definitely gave me a boost of confidence and surge of inspiration!! I can’t wait to show you all the cuteness we have coming for you in the future… So many new favorites (I hope!!) coming your way!

ANYWAY…will TIMOTHEA FERMANICH,  JULIE FOX, AND EMILY SPENCER send my gal Andrea an email at andrea@wildflowersclothing.com? We’re gonna send you three a little something something!

Okay lovely, intelligent, brave, BEAUTIFUL ladies… I’m going to go enjoy my Mother’s day with Margo and Marky. I hope you are all treated like queens today!!! AS YOU SHOULD BE!

XO,
Sam

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. I’ll try not to bore you with the endless details of birthdays and brunches and parties and releases…just kidding. That’s all I’m gonna write about today! But before I jump into all the celebratory fun I’ve been having, I wanna scream from the rooftops that RELEASE 3 IS HERE!!! The world just got a lot more colorful (see all that new cuteness here!).

ANYWAY… My baby girl celebrated her first birthday. WOW. What a sentence! I’m not sure I ever imagined saying those words!! But now I can’t imagine NOT saying those words, does that even make sense?!

Her party was “rainbow donut” themed because I think you have to have some sort of cheesy theme at a first bday party, right?! I probably brought enough cheesiness just by being the ring leader for the decor! I couldn’t help myself when it came to all the cuteness at Target, Meri Meri, Amazon, etc!! And, of course, we had donuts galore!! I went to 3 different donut shops to make sure we had the perfect assortment (and WAY too many leftovers). Margo was decked out in her rainbow best in a sweet bubble from Eleanor Rose, our sister company.

The day was filled with treats, pinatas, and presents, but the absolute best part was seeing so many people show up to celebrate her! I never in a million years thought Mark and I would move to Texas and create this whole new world for ourselves, complete with a baby girl and friends that truly feel like family! A family that made Margo’s birthday feel so special. A family that makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world every single day.

We turned the corner after Margo’s bday and it was MY bday (and also April Fools, and ALSO Easter this year). It was a wonderful blur of birthday brunch and backyard shenanigans, complete with sprinklers, kiddy pools, and beautiful weather!

And literally 2 days later, Spring release 3 happened! I guess they say good things happen in threes, right?! But I think we’re always in the middle of about a dozen good things, so maybe that expression doesn’t even apply?! All I know is I’M SO PUMPED ABOUT SPRING! It’s brought so much joy, BIG CELEBRATIONS, and cuteness…and there’s more coming. But I won’t start talking Spring 4 now, I gotta stay focused on our current release or at least as focused as Sam McDonald can be!?

Until next time…
XO,

SAM

When I think back to January 7th, it feels like a dream. Lynn, owner, founder, and designer for Kelly’s Kids and Eleanor Rose, walks in my office, shuts the door, and says – “I want to start a new company, and I want you to design…whatever you design for it!” Maybe that’s not verbatim, but you get my drift. My non-compete was officially up and I was free, and she was giving me the chance of a lifetime. I remember crying. I remember discussing names she’d been thinking of for the brand. All of this happened in about ten minutes. That’s Lynn, she’s not only a fast talker, but a quick dreamer too. And when she believes in something, it makes you believe in it too!

I remember the rush of excitement I felt in every bone of my body…I was going to get to design again! Heck, I was going to create a brand with girls that had become my best friends over the past year. What?!

Flash forward to March. 100’s of sketches and what felt like thousands of fabrics later, four releases of our first collection, Written in the Stars, were designed. And not 2 days later, I had a baby! That’s where for the first time, I felt like I was drowning. I started spiraling, I didn’t know what I was thinking. I couldn’t do it all. But then I remembered, oh ya, I don’t HAVE to do it all. That’s NOT the first time my team picked up the slack, but it was the first time I really let go and watched them take care of me. It was humbling and it was truly inspiring to see my girls blossom!

I wish I could say that was the sole instance, but that would be a lie. I need help more than most, I bet. There are days, okay, I’ll be honest, WEEKS, when I don’t think I’m good enough. I’m not a creative enough designer, a mature enough leader, or a present enough mother. When these thoughts become louder than I can stand, that’s when my girls step in and take the reigns.

My girls, they rally – for me, for a good cause, you name it. They’ll be in my office faster than you can say “Sunshine Search” –  sitting hot cross applesauce on the floor, surrounding me, while I cry because I’m uncertain or I’m 2 hours deep into lurking other brands, feeling like…why do I even try?! They know why I try. They put all the pieces back into place and show me perspective. I’d be lost without my girls.

Flash forward to July. Our first conference! 17 women flew to Austin from all over the country. I know the number 17 sounds small, but goodness it felt big to me then. These overqualified and utterly beautiful women all hopped on the Wildflowers train without even seeing the clothes in person! They didn’t just hop on, they held tight, and didn’t let go, let me tell you! The first group of Consultants will always hold a special place in my heart and our Wildflowers story.

Flash forward to August. Our first release. I don’t think I slept the night before preview Pop-Up Parties started. It was Christmas Eve x 10000000. And y’all liked it! I mean, some of you even seemed to love it! And each month just got better and better. Y’all especially liked September, I think – and that made the team so stoked because that was hands down everyone’s favorite (of course, each release is my favorite hehe). I read the comments, learned from the feedback, and my head may have even grown a size or 2 with each compliment I read! I KNOW I cried more than a few times seeing your babies in our frocks at school, at recitals, at daddy/daughter dances, and more…

Flash forward to now…. on the heels of Spring. So much to learn and appreciate from the past and so much to look forward to in the future. We have 4 more releases on the way for you. The first half designed with baby Margo on my lap and all designed with her in my mind. The colors are fresh and bright, a real contrast to the gray days the seemingly endless Winter brings. Can’t wait to show you more.

Ahh, what a year! We did giveaways, we tried out custom dresses as a hostess benefit, we tried new styles and fabrications, learned from the good and the bad, and I truly feel like we wrapped up this season better as a brand and better as a family. I know at the end of the day we may just be a ‘girls clothing company’ but to me, this year and these people have shown me how much more we can be! As we grow, I hope we can remember this time as a small, tight team of 8. A tiny team that works SO hard on everything we touch and never gives up! Even when it feels like, what’s the point? Because when one of us feels like that, the rest of us will rally.

None of these moments or these genuinely amazing feelings would have happened without the support of our people. That’s you guys!! I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish in 2018 together. Right now I’m just hoping you love Spring and that we can continue to do some really great things with Seeds of Hope. Not too much to ask, right?!

Okay, now just because I wanna say it… That’s a wrap!!

XO,

Sam
