Stories of the Season

Can I just tell you how interesting it is to see your favorites each release day?! I love seeing which items y’all go gaga over because they’re always different than what I predict! Well not ALWAYS but I’m still surprised by our top sellers each and every month so far!

Did you know our whole team in Austin is involved in picking each release? I over-design at least 2-3 times — which means if we want 20 pieces in a release, I design 40-60 pieces for us to CHOOSE from to create the final 20 pieces. During this time we all end up with our personal favorites, of course. Dresses or tops we HAVE to have in the line…you know, the ones that we would ‘fight’ to keep in the release! Or styles that are cute, but we decide should be recolored and saved for the next release or season. It’s truly funny to see everybody’s picks and hear WHY they picked them. Ashton, our CEO, has some of the strongest opinions on what designs he likes best. He always says “I’ll dress my girls in that…and that…and that and that and that.” For instance in October, he HAD to have the Monet Top and the Whimsical World Tiered Dress! No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it! Where as I HAD to have the reversible jumper. HAD. TO. I would have fought everybody at that table for it!

Luckily we were all in agreement that the jumper was a must and I didn’t have to wrestle anyone over it. 😉 There’s just something about that plaid, am I right?! All of our printed woven fabrics we’ve used, so far, are poplin – a cool, lightweight woven fabric with a smooth hand feel, that’s easy to iron and shouldn’t wrinkle too easily like most 100% cottons do. But this was the first time I used a yarn dyed poplin…which is the reason the jumper is reversible! Ha, you should have seen me when I came up with the idea. I felt like a genius, even though it’s a rather simple concept! If you know me, it doesn’t take much to get me bouncing around, overly excited…

Our other OBVIOUS favorite was any and ALL items with the fable print on it!! Those deer, owls, and foxes wrapped up in scarves all cozy and such?! How could you not love it!? Not to mention it was hand drawn for me to color-up by the AMAZING artist who designs all of the fabrics for Eleanor Rose and Kelly’s Kids. I felt so honored to have her create this one-of-a-kind cutie print for us! The Fable Peasant Top paired with the Mimi Leggings is near the top of my favorite lists too. Such a sweet, simply adorable pairing, made only more adorable by the DARLING Adeline James in it above (that’s Ashton’s littlest girl!). Or -if you’re like me and you like to get a little more adventurous with your outfit making, then try it styled with the Comeback Knickers!! There’s a small ruffle tucked underneath the ‘words of wisdom’ trim around the skirt of the peasant top that helps the knickers coordinate ever-so-perfectly.

And that leads me to the last piece I want to swooooon over today! The Pixie Mitzi! The slightly curved, LINED, bodice, the 4 paneled skirt, the ruffle detail on the side panels…and that fable print featured smack dab in the middle! I have all the heart eyes for this special little guy. PLUS. I named it after a dear friend of mine Mitzi, from the amazing Livie and Luca Shoes! I haven’t even told her this yet! No time like the present though, right!? Well Mitzi, this exceptionally unique silhouette was designed with you in mind! Your magical spirit, unique (insanely creative) style, and huge HEART are what make you special to me and I guess I hoped this dress captured that as well as you do. ❤️

OKAY LASTLY!!! I wanna do something NEW. Well, something OLD to me, but NEW for Wildflowers—a blog contest! Tell me what your favorite WF style is so far and why for a chance at one of our limited hostess messenger bags!! All blog comments need approved by admin first (we get LOTS of spam for some reason?!) so don’t worry if you don’t see your post showing up immediately! Andrea or I will go through and make sure they all get approved before we pick the winners!

I cannot wait to see what are your TOP favorites are! 😍

XOXO,

SAM

P.S. Check out my gal, Andrea, looking even more gorgeous and princess-ly than usual! She just got her wedding photos back yesterday and our entire office has been oohing and ahhing over them all morning! Her wedding was one for the books, let me tell ya. It might even be part of the story for Spring 2018…you’ll just have to wait and see! ✨

Any Ballet dress…this style is a great transition piece through the changing seasons and variable temperatures in our home town…while still echoing our love of the outdoors with your beautiful prints.

My favorite so far is the Boho Top! I love how feminine it is and it fits both of my girls so well, and they have two different body types. It is just so flattering on each of them! Both of my girls look forward to seeing the new pieces each release! But I think they love trying them on once we receive them the most. You should see all the twirly, happy, grinning pictures I take! You can just tell they absolutely love the clothes! Thank you for all the love that goes into making these beautiful clothes! I can tell your whole heart goes into them because it carries on to my girls when they get to put them on! ❤️

I know every post has said “how hard it is to choose just one”……well dadblamit it is hard to choose just one. I have 2 girls that rock WF. 2 girls with 2 personalities.

    Requirements:
    1-no ties around the waist!
2-has to a “finnin” (spinning) dress!
    3-knit please!

And the winner is…..(drum roll, please)
    The tickled pink ballet dress!!
Knit bodice, no ties, and perfect twirlability!

Hands down the Out West Lavergne. So sweet and simple. Great on it’s own or layered with other WF pieces or things you already have in your daughter’s closet. And the sunny yellow color is perfection on my curly-haired brunette!

Sam I just wrote a long paragraph and don’t know where it went. My vote for favorite style is the one Miley is wearing for the day. Really I have lots and one of them is the sweet Jane jumper that I was not able to get so please do again in future! Lynn had a great idea with cat patches. I also missed the kitty cardigan. You are obviously doing lots of things right in that spinning brain of your and it has spun out so many delightful styles. Looking forward to the future “sunshine”
    Love you!

I love it all!!! 😍 So hard to choose, the boho top was my must have item that drew me into WIldflowers Clothing…. those colors are perfection! Pictures of the boho taunted me from my Facebook feed for weeks until I finally got my order confirmation and it was listed! Yippee!!! The sweet Jane jumper and the Nina of course are also favorites!!! A surprise favorite is the wild heart dreamer dress…. the twirl, the shape…. the flutter sleeves, the “layer-ability,” the fabric, the fact that there is “no sash,” (my daughter is forever asking… does it have no sash mommy? Ok, good! 😉 ) AND, the sweet little ladybug that peeks out and almost startles me when I notice him snug among the flowers, just waiting to be noticed. Makes me smile every time. I love it. So hard to pick just one! The knits are so soft. I only wish the layering tees were a tad bit longer in the torso for longer waisted girls, the sleeves are perfect 👌🏻 But I digress, really if we have to pick just one favorite style? My “fight to see it again next year” would be the Nina. Give me all the colors… I would be very happy starting a Nina collection. ❤️❤️❤️

Our favorites are the knits. My daughter is going through a knit phase. She absolutely loves the Sabrina ruffles and the Darling Polly Leggings and the Primrose Blouse and the All ruched up Tee. She is into pants and tops right now as well so the matching knits have been perfect for us so far with this collection. Thank you so much for all you all do and for creating such a beautiful brand.

Our pick for favorite piece is kind of a surprise (to me, at least). My ultra frilly 6 year old daughter’s favorite piece so far are the overalls. They were her “must have” piece because she wants to wear them to farm with Grandpa. My dad is an old farmer who wears overalls every day, and she idolizes him!

I love it all! I go to a pop-up, order pieces, put a couple on my maybe list. , and the next day I message my consultant to add the maybes to my purchase list. A day or two later I message her to add a couple more things, and ask her opinion about some others. I hem and I haw. I then go back to my consultant’s to look at the collection again, and add more items. I do this every release. Every. Release. My consultant Jessica is the best! In September I bought almost every piece. I have one (1!) daughter. I bought a ton in October, too. I can’t wait for November.

There are so many beautiful pieces. I love the Scout style and the bib dresses, the Mitzi is adorable on. I love the boho style top with it’s beautiful quality fabric and the back hemline that hangs low in the back. I love how it is so wearable alone, yet layers beautifully. I would buy this style every release. But I have to say that my very favorite is the Tallulah. I love the long sleeves and the contrast swathe of fabric that curves around the neckline. I love the floaty, twirly skirt. I love how it looks great with knee socks or tights, but looks just as good with the striped leggings that match the bodice fabric. And my daughter loves the pockets. Most of all, I love how this dress makes my daughter feel. You can tell that it makes her feel twirly and happy, wild and free, and full of confidence. But most of all, she feels comfortable, in the dress and in her own skin. Watching her skip confidently along in this dress, singing a little song, makes my heart sing. She gives me aaaalllll the feels!

Of what we have bought I absolutely LOVE the scout dress!! The colors are amazing and the design is so perfect and classic for my oldest and the youngest. One that I loved but did not get due to sell outs was the boho! Those colors are to die for in the main fabric. I guess I need to get the Tallulah or Whim and wander just to have a piece of the gorgeous rich colored fabric you chose. We have absolutely LOVED all the wildflower clothing we have purchased!! Sam, I seriously am in love with this clothing line!

I am in LOVE with the Degas Fancy Ballet dress and I was from the second I saw it. I am a sucker for a Peter Pan collar, and the mix or fabrics caught my eye right away. More importantly, with my beauty turning 7 this year, she has definitely found her own voice and style when it comes to what she wants to wear, and it doesn’t always happen anymore that she loves what I love, When I opened the website and was slowly scrolling down looking at the collection, we both gasped at the same time when we saw this dress. We got it in the mail yesterday and it’s even more gorgeous in person! She was jumping and hugging me, and throwing things off to try it on. It was so fun to see her so excited!

If I had to pick just one favorite style, I would have to say Mitzi. I just love the soft knit top and flutter sleeves. I am a sucker for flutter sleeves! Then there are the other details – the buttons, the panels, the Ruffles and amazing fabric and color combos that just make it click! I also love Felicity for many of the same reasons. The flutters, of course, but also the fabric, the gathers, pintucks and trims that make it special. Thank you for the excitement and beauty of Wildflowers!!

Make a Wish Bib Dress!!! The colors are absolutely stunning, the fabric is nice and soft, that twirl factor?! Divine! Tre best parts are the DOUBLE ruffle at the wrist and the Bib. Those special touches are what makes Wildflowers the best! Love you, Sam!

In Minnesota, we wear layers year round — so we LOVE both the jackets. The colors and design are so unique and we know we will get so much wear out of them. 💗

But my favorite might have the be the Sweet Jane Jumper. I love pairing the plum/berry color with the yellow pocket, navy ribbon and the unexpected bright pink lace trim. (I never would have considered bright pink a “fall” color until now!) All the details give this piece so many mixing and matching possibilities, one of my favorite things about it!

We have something from all three releases but my absolute favorite is the Sweet Jane Jumper. I love this piece because of how my 7 year old daughter feels when she wears it. The other day she got herself completely ready for school and this was the dress she picked. She then told me how she felt really pretty in it and that just makes my heart happy! To me this dress is special because my second grader feels confident in it and it reminds me of the dresses my grandmother use to make for me when I was a little girl. This one Iwill be be keeping for her to pass down to her own daughter someday.

I think my favorite so far is the Moon and Scout Back dress. We have it laid out to wear to school tomorrow❤️. Fall is my favorite season so I love the colors and it is still so hot here in Texas the short sleeves make it perfect. And of course twirl factor is always considered, especially if my daughter is judging!

We have loved every Wildflowers piece, so it’s hard to choose a favorite! If we had to pick one, it would be the Grow With Me Grace top. My 18m old Wildflower, Violet, is comfortable in the soft fabric and can easily move, shake, climb, and gallop. 🙂 The fab geometric, adorable birds, sweet flowers, and darling sewing notions trim make her look extra cute while keeping busy. Plus, with our crazy Indiana weather, she can wear it as is this week and easily layer it next week when the temperature drops 40 degrees! 😉

Ballet Dress is our hands down favorite. The soft bodice combined with the twirly skirt. It’s the smile and giggle that erupts from my daughter when she puts it on and twirls that does it for me. That is what it is all about…clothes that make her (and me 😉) smile, clothes that let her dream, clothes that let her inner sparkle shine through! I think she might have twirled 40 times watching herself in the mirror. Thank you!!

It is so hard to choose!! The Moon and Back Scout dress and Nina are so close (who doesn’t love a hood, especially a removable one?!!), but I think Scout wins. It is so very perfect. The details are amazing. The tied bow in the back is absolutely precious, I love the pop of color, it’s unexpected. The colors are quintessential Fall, but somehow still feel unique the way they are paired. I love the short sleeves since it’s still 80/90 degree weather where we live! It’s very comfortable, easy to wear, and has that perfect twirl!

Wildflowers has been a blessing to both our girls. The three releases with their rich hues intricate details, and mix of textures speaks to the free spirit within each of our daughters. Allowing their unique sense of style to emerge so they may express themselves not only through their words and actions but how they present themselves to the world. They are blessed to be able to do so with Sam’s very first, amazing, written in the stars wildflowers collections.. I have chosen Alysse to show you how you have made her sense of style spring to life and thrive. Alysse’s personal favorite, is a mix of the releases. she loves to wear the sweet Jane jumper she adores the pockets, and I love the vintage feel. She paired it with the stripey up your sleeve tee, I know right I never would have even considered. To top it off she can’t get enough of her better together vest, she will pair this piece with anything in her closet. The vest is her ultimate favorite piece. The hood, the little blue bird button, and the pockets in her book it’s perfection. We love how you have enabled our daughter to release her spunky. Fun, wild child or rather wildflower personality through your creations thank you!

My favorite style so far is the pearl from the first release – the Pinky Promise dress. It’s perfect for so many reasons, but mostly because the style lends itself perfectly to many years of wear – first as a dress and then as a tunic. It’s loose and comfortable and the fabric feels amazing and washes really well. The button detail at the yoke adds something special, too. It’s s taple that every girl needs in her closet.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? This company fits my daughter’s personality to the tee. She loves girly clothes, but is a tomboy at heart. She’s not afraid to get dolled up just to go outside and play in the dirt. Although I cringe when I see her clothes get dirty, I realize that in that moment as she’s twirling and spinning that she’s happy. I am reminded that she’ll only be little once and that I need to savor these moments. So with that being said, thank you Sam McDonald for creating such beautiful clothes that our little ones love to wear!

As for my favorite, I find it next to impossible to decide. However, I absolutely adore the Lavern with the Warm and Cozy Jacket. As soon as we saw it on the model, I knew we just had to have it.

It’s great to have that giddy feeling and excitement back when dressing up my 3 year old. I really LOVE everything I’ve seen so far and if I could afford it, I would have bought everything from the last 3 releases. Now, my Olivia does have a favorite and it’s the kitty patches! We really wanted the cardigan but it sold out before my consultant could snag me one but we did get the leggings. She has been wearing them since they came in! Today it was a grey tank and the kitty leggings lol. Whatever she wants that makes her happy. Keep doing what you guys are doing because I am loving it! My daughter loves anything with animals so of course the sloth dress and animals from this last release are a huge win for us. I personally love to see the lap dresses and I love the overall options. The birdie top and the golden hour felicity have to be my favorites! First! I think a gathered sleeve is highly underrated and one of my favorite styles for little girls (and myself) ever!! I don’t know what it is about a long sleeve top with a gathered sleeve and that loose fitting bodice, paired with boots and a skinny leg pant but I can not resist that look on my girl. From age 3 up till now (almost 7) it’s one of my favorite outfits to put together for her. And with the bird print (insert heart eyes), the snowflake sleeves, (insert heart eyes) and the ruffle across the chest (insert heart eyes) of the delicate floral print (insert heart eyes) I don’t think that top could be any more perfect! And I may secretly feel like that too was made specifically for me. Ha. Golden hour felicity is another favorite I think because that style with the flutter sleeve keeps my little looking little and reminds me (of a much more gorgeous version) of the tops and dresses my mother put me in when I was little (in the late 80’s and early 90’s) and I know she would love it too. Classic. Perfection. Timeless.

So without a doubt my favorite is the Plaid Jumper. I saw it behind you on the sneak you shared before August’s release and told Whitney (my consultant) that I didn’t care what I had to do, whenever that top/dress came out she was going to get it for me!! We haven’t gotten our order yet, but I can just imagine the sweet dots and plaid on my little girl. The design is simple yet absolutely stunning. My daughters favorite is the Mystic Bella. When she tried it on at the pop up she tried to hide in her closet so that she didn’t have to give it back. She said, “BUT MOM……it is so soft and it has POCKETS!!!” I also love that all your dresses have pockets. Perfect for my little ones treasures to hide in until the wash/dryer cycle! Thanks so much Sam! We are loving your clothes and can’t wait for more!

It’s so hard to choose a favorite from this release because you picked my absolute three favorite colors and combined them epically! If I had to choose though, wintermoon did it for me! The details, the silhouette, heck even the name! My middle daughter’s favorite is the whimsical tiered dress because HELLO?! #twirlsfordays We love our Sam clothes!!!! I already can’t wait for November!

It’s so hard to pick just one! I’ve absolutely fallen in love with this line and everything in it!! My personal favorite to date has been the Pixie Mitzi. My dad was a hunter and after he passed away a few years ago deer became a symbol of him to myself and my sisters. I needed to get my hands on everything with deer! Imagine my excitement when I saw that print this release! My daughter never met him but there’s something about her wearing deer that gives me the warm and fuzzies and makes me think of him. Needless to say the Pixie Mitzi will get lots of wear! . I can’t wait to see what’s next for Wildflowers! I’m anxiously awaiting November.

And the burnt orange with blue is just to die for! So beautiful!! Can’t wait to see all that is to come!

It’s hard picking just one, but the boho style is great – I’ve seen so many adorable girls from very young to tween looking stylish and age appropriate in this top! A close second is the Tallulah dress style with the contrasting fabric opportunities, adorable neckline, and pockets!

My favorite style dress is the ballet dress. When my daughter saw the puppy fabric on the Whimsical World Ballet dress she fell in love. Our sweet Westie passed away a few months ago and the dog fabric brings back the many happy memories we shared with him. I have always heard the saying it’s more than just a dress and to my family the Whimsical dress is more than just a dress it’s memories and magic.

I have always been a sucker for the bib style. I was first introduced to it with the Lou Lou’s from persnickety. They have always been my favorite pieces ❤️ So of course the make a wish bib dress is a favorite but oh my gosh those birds on the mystic Bella 😍😍😍 I couldn’t help but scream as we opened those packages up! Of course every single WF piece I have seen has been gorgeous, but if I had to choose my favorites, there they are! Can’t wait to see a summery bib dress 😍😍😍

Loved the mystical Bella Blue dress because a. Favorite color, b. Birdies!! And 3. Pockets. Need I say more. It sold out so we missed it in our size, but I think it is gorgeous.
We did get the whimsical world tiered ballet and love it too because a. Colors, b. Doggies! And c. Twirl!
My daughter tells me she has a second heart for animals ❤️ so anything with animals on it is a win for us 🙂

Love the design, the fabric and prints. The Golden Hour Felicity Dress is another beautiful one. I love the delicate style and beautiful-ness of the color palette. Then the Wintermoon Fancy Ballet Dress has my heart too. Oh and let’s not forget the Boho Top – beuatimus!! It’s all gorgeous!!! We love Wildflowers!!

This line, once again, has allowed me to purchase clothing for my little girls that make them look like little girls. I am still in love with the Heart and Soul Eloise Jumper!!! I love that we can wear it as a jumper early fall when the temps are in the 80s, layer it with coordinating tee and leggins as our fall weather continues to get lower and finally adding the matching cardigan for early November here in Tennessee. Then as we head into spring we can reverse the steps and wear it until spring is in bloom. An outfit for August thru March!!! Yay!! Homerun Sam!!

The felicity style is my most favorite!! Our little wildflower is a petite little thing and this style was made for her tiny frame. It was love from the moment I saw it on her. The style itself it great but the details on it are amazing, the lace, the quality. You name it, I loved it all. It also made me immediately think of my hippie loving momma, this piece of clothing is everything she loved summed up. When ours arrived I sent her a picture, she also loved but did request one in her size. Haha

Mystic Bella Blue Dress, yes because the colors are even more AMAZING in real life than they are on the website and we buy to wear and this fabric makes life so easy to get dressed in the morning for school, BUT I really love this dress because my girl puts it on and says she’s going to sing with the birds. Watching her imagination is nothing short of miraculous and I love seeing her enjoy the true beauty of life “chit chatting with nature” and simply being the innocent young lady that I always dreamed of her to be!

The Jane Jumper & September Sun Simple Tee! It makes me feel all nostalgic. It feels like it’s from a time where little girls could be little girls and run wild and free without a care in the world. Seeing my little one in this brings me back to my childhood memories and warms my heart.

My children have each had their own theme at birth, my youngest’s being a nice crisp yellow apple. Having a fall birthday it seemed perfect. It reminded me of childhood when we used to pick apples off of our eight trees (which seemed like an orchard back then!) and collect the juice from the press that my father and grandfather had built. When I first saw the sneak of that Criss Cross Applesauce Dress I knew it was going on the “must have” list. It’s so very pretty, there’s no doubt about that, but so full of fond memories from the past.

I have two girls so we must have two favorites. The Sweet Jane jumper (WOW!) is fabulous in every way! I haven’t liked corduroy or jumpers in a long time but that jumper is perfection from the colors to the details and fit. We haven’t gotten that many compliments on an outfit in a long time. Moon and Back Scout was my older daughter’s favorite. We loved the sweet,-yet age encompassing design, vibrant, rich colors, soft, buttery knit fabric and can’t miss the amazing twirl. We are thrilled with everything we’ve purchased from all the releases. I found Matilda Jane several years ago and have been a repeat customer for one main reason. My girls are very tall for their age and my then 3 year old had grown out of size 5. We found most of our choices for clothing looked way to old to put on a sweet, innocent, baby faced munchkin. Fast forward to this season and now, my girls are 5 and 8 wearing sz 8 and 12. Thank you for making another OUTSTANDING brand to keep our precious baby girls looking their age!

When your daughter suddenly, overnight becomes an 8 year old (trust me this will happen in the blink of an eye), it is hard to agree on clothes. She has been dressing in clothes designed by Sam for longer than she can remember, so when Wildflowers came out, I was ecstatic! I wanted it to be a brand we could both agree on. Who would have thought 8 year olds could be so opinionated?!! Well, she has loved so much so far! Yay! But if she had to pick a favorite it would be the Ophelia overalls. She let everyone at our show know they were her favorite. I, on the other hand, fell in love with the boho top. But the knickers won me over this past release! We will get our order today and I hope she loves them as much as I do! And we’ll see if anything from this release trumps the overalls in her eyes.

I fell in love with those knickers right away! They remind me of the 50’s and a time when women were just beginning to break free of some of the stereotypes that had held them back in so many facets of life- a time when femininity was being expressed in a new a different way.
